Questions to ask a financial advisor
Eight questions that reveal how an advisor works, what you will pay, and how they handle your money.
Eight questions to ask
- Are you a fiduciary, and will you act as one for all of my accounts?
- How are you paid, and what are all of the costs I will pay?
- What services are included in your fee?
- What qualifications and training do you have?
- Who else will work on my account?
- How often will we review my plan?
- What happens if we disagree about a recommendation?
- How can I leave the relationship, and what would it cost?
What good answers sound like
Clear, specific answers in writing. Be cautious of anyone who avoids the fee question, promises guaranteed returns, or pressures you to decide quickly.
